The eyes have it
It might sound odd but photos look good if the eyes are in focus. Even if other
parts of the face aren't in focus aim to keep the eyes in. This is especially
true of pets. Yes, you can take portraits of them too!

Some camera focussing systems have problems with fur so, if you can, get it to
focus on the eyes and then shift the frame to where you want. You should be
able to half press the shutter release to get the camera to focus and lock the
focus if you keep it half pressed and then reframe before pressing it all the
way down.
Getting the eyes, or at least one of them, in focus is especially important
with shallow depth of field as there is less of the face in focus. |
