What's the subject?
A friend once asked me why the photo she had taken of her husband and son
against a fantastic sunset hadn't come out as she had seen it.
I explained to her that the sun was the brightest object about and when
shooting into it everything else would be in silhouette. Setting her camera to
fire the flash would have helped by creating some fill-in light on them.
Afterwards though I thought "What was the subject of her picture?".
Did she want the fantastic sunset or a "snap" of her family on
holiday. Sometimes one picture may not be enough. Take the photo as planned
(with the fill-in to show the family) but take a second of just the sunset,
especially if it was that good! |
