Hints

You don't need an expensive camera...
... to take great photographs. To me the important thing about a photograph is the moment that has been captured. OK, the quality of print will not be as good from a box brownie as it would from a top of the range pro camera but if the box brownie caught the moment and the pro camera missed it by a second, which is the better photograph?

The image taken is, for me, more important than the equipment. I've often heard people saying to me "You'll take better pictures because you've got a better camera than I do" and I always tell them that it's the moment that is important not the camea. One of the best photographs that I've had the pleasure to work with was taken by a friend with a throw-away camera. He asked if I could colour-pop it for him. Other than that I straightened the horizon (it was taken at the beach) and ever-so-slightly cropped to suit.

With the advent of digital photography picture should be on the up. You can instantly see your results and delete bad photos in-camera. You are not restricted to 12, 24 or 36 photos that you have to wait to see. I know my picture taking increased dramatically when I eventually took the digital plunge. I still have my two Canon film cameras but they never come of the shelf.
